Land of Blue

In January 2015 I spent a week photographing the incredible ice formations and volcanic beaches of Southern Iceland. The content of my images is almost entirely ice and snow, and when I returned home the question that I was asked over and over again was whether or not my images were really that blue. People asked if I had Photoshopped them, if I had used a filter, if I’d changed the colors. I hadn’t. When I came across cyanotype, I was drawn to the way that the process naturally replicated those blue hues that I had found in Iceland. The blue brings out the details in the glaciers and icebergs, replicating the colors as they occur in nature.
